Plasticine perspective art

On Friday our class finished off the day with a fun art using plasticine. Our assignment was to make something that goes out into the distance(example: a road,river,path way or train tracks). We talked about how items in the distance were smaller than the items in the foreground. We mixed colours of plasticine to make it more realistic.

Living Museum

Last Friday we started talking about the living museum. First we had to talk about making a living museum proposal to the curators of the museum (Owen and Shauna), We must include our topic, What questions we will answer, who's in our group, what the end product will look like, what challenges we might encounter and the work division between team members. Everyone is really excited to get started on our research. To make our groups, we decided on what topic we were going to do and then we found other people that wanted to do the same topic and you didn't have to work with people in the same grade as you, which was nice. It was very open, so we can be very creative and think about things that we can build/create. We are using the Google drive to help us with our research and to share work with our group members.

Literature Circles

We have been doing lit circle reading for about a week and we are having a lot of fun so far. We got into groups and started to set up. Our books are Odds Get Even, Lost Goat Lane, Swindle, Tale Of Desperaux and Mealworm Diaries. Our jobs are Discussion Leader And Connecter, Summary Recorder, Q And A Reporter, Art Talk Facilitator and Golden Word Finder. Here are some pictures of the books we are reading.

Play

Yesterday we went to the gym for a play. The performance Was really good.The play was well done and the sound effects were really cool. The piano in the play was really awesome. The play was performed by Nepean high school. The play was called Splendville and was really amazing . Some of the people used to go to our school. We got lots of pictures so if you were not here that day you can get a sneak peek of what the play was like.

School of rock pins and bracelets

Today we will be able to buy bracelets for $2, their really cool I think you should buy one. You can only buy one today Wednesday and all the money raised will be going to CHEO.

On Thursday and Friday they will start selling school of rock 8 pins for 1$. Get yourself ready to ROCK!

Drumming with Kathy

Today we saw a performance by Kathy and some students from our school, who performed a African drumming with African instruments and dancing. They performed some amazing songs the whole school really enjoyed the show!

 

 

 

Stop Motion Film Festival!

On Thursday, April 18, we went to the Stop Motion Film Festival at Mayfair Theatre. We watched all the stop motion movies the classes made. We had a lot of fun watching the stop motion films. Everybody had a good time. It must have taken Tiiu a lot of effort to make the stop motion films work. Everybody give Tiiu a big thank you for helping us set them up to watch them!

Our Great Student Teacher

Yesterday was our last day with Bronwen, our student teacher. We had an amazing experience with her for the last few months!
We really enjoyed having her teach us language, spelling, science, social studies, math and art.
We loved having her in the classroom, she was always very positive and helpful!

Science Experiments

Today we had Nils and Rebecca do some cool science experiments. Rebecca's experiment was called Elephant's Toothpaste and Nils' was called Boiling Water with Nothing. Nils' experiment was to show that you can boil water by lowering the air pressure! Rebecca's experiment was to show how to make an exothermic reaction!

Earth Day

Today is Earth Day.

Earth day is a very important day for all of us to think about how important the earth is to us, and to think about what we can do help the earth or encourage others to do the same.  Take a look at the video below and post a comment sharing with the class your thoughts about what these young students in Australia are doing.

3D shape search with our study buddies

Today we went on a search for 3D shapes with our buddies all around the school, You wont believe how many shapes we found. We and our buddies had to look for spheres, rectangular prisms, cones , cylinders and cubes. We had so much fun looking for shapes.
